Turin

Située à la frontière avec la France et la Vallée d'Aoste, la province de Turin s'étend dans la zone de Pinerolo, dans la pittoresque Vallée de Suse, dans le Canavese et dans les zones de colline à l'est et au sud du chef-lieu.

La zone est caractérisée par une succession de paysages différents: les magnifiques domaines skiable alpins, les amples pâturages, les forets et les grandes étendues de vignobles.

Nombreuses sont aussi les aires protégées parmi lesquelles la Réserve Naturelle du Sacro Monte di Belmonte et le magnifique Parc National du Grand Paradis, royaume incontesté des bouquetins, chamois, marmottes, oiseaux rares, et beaucoup d’autres espèces. Dans ce spectaculaire cadre naturel se trouvent d’innombrables témoignages d'un passé riche d'histoire et de culture.

Tout le territoire évoque les souvenirs du long royaume de la Maison de Savoie, comme en témoignent les merveilleuses résidences au milieu d’immenses parcs, reconnues par l'Unesco comme sites patrimoine mondial de l'humanité. Mais l'empreinte la plus forte du pouvoir savoyard est visible à Turin, la ville éclectique qui comme un musée en plein air, réunit palais baroques, monuments liés au grand passé et architectures contemporaines: un endroit dynamique où différentes réalités cohabitent harmonieusement. Une énorme quantité d’autres trésors peuvent être admirés dans la province: des imposantes forteresses comme le Fort Fenestrelle et le Fort Exilles perchés sur des montagnes âpres, aux abbayes qui s’élèvent le long du parcours de l'ancienne Via Francigena ou isolées dans la nature comme la célèbre Abbaye de San Michele (Saint-Michel), l' un des monuments les plus suggestifs du Piémont.

Sur le territoire s’élèvent des villages historiques, gardiens d'anciennes traditions comme Ivrée, avec un patrimoine artistique considérable, Suse, Chivasso, Chieri et beaucoup d’autres jusqu'au petit bourg de Mélezet qui conserve des précieux témoignages artistiques du XVème siècle. La gastronomie locale est sans égal: plats exquis, recettes de la tradition, vins excellents et le célèbre chocolat "gianduia" offrent des saveurs pour tous les goûts. Mais les surprises sont infinies dans cette terre où histoire, culture et nature créent un ensemble au charme extrême.

The Province of Turin lies on the border with France and Val d'Aosta, extending to Pinerolo, the picturesque Val di Susa, the Canavese and the hills to the east and south of the City of Turin. The area is characterized by its varied landscapes: magnificent alpine resorts, vast pasturelands, woods and large stretches of vineyards. The Province is also home to a number of reserves, including the Sacro Monte Natural Reserve in Belmonte, and the wonderful Gran Paradiso National Park, the undisputed realm of ibex, chamois, marmots, rare birds and other animals. In this spectacular natural landscape, cultural and historical finds abound.

The entire territory is permeated with signs of the long reign of Savoy: think elaborate Savoy residences surrounded by grand parks (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Yet the most visible evidence of the Savoys' power is on view in Turin, an eclectic city that is a sort of open-air museum combining Baroque palaces, monuments from its glorious past and contemporary architecture. It is truly a dynamic scene that allows various styles to exist in complete harmony. Not only, but countless other treasures await those who would admire them, from imposing mountain fortresses like Forte Fenestrelle and Forte Exilles, to the abbeys lining the ancient Via Francigena or standing in the quiet solitude the countryside - the Sacra di San Michele, one of the most impressive monuments in Piedmont, comes to mind.

The area’s historic town centers are custodians of ancient traditions: Ivrea, with its remarkable artistic heritage; Susa, Chivasso, Chieri; and the hamlet of Mélezet, preserving precious 15th-Century artworks.
