Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur has entered into partnerships with the world’s largest companies (IBM, Cisco, etc.) to conduct ambitious experiments with communicating sensors in a territory that has become a living lab. This involves all the players in the area: local companies and startups, universities, research laboratories, competitiveness clusters, and elected officials.
With IMREDD (Institut Méditerranéen du Risque de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable), Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur has designed an open technology platform accessible to all partners – the Smart City Innovation Center. It is a meeting place where the R & D of major partner companies join forces on the ideas, concepts and products designed and developed by very small, small and medium sized industries and startups, as well as by research laboratories. Once these new technologies, applications and services have been demonstrated, tested and validated in the territory, a second phase begins, which includes the commercial development of the solutions. The aim is to build up a new business model that will both develop local partners and create new jobs.
